Haywood Community College receives donation from The North Carolina Arboretum

As part of a community outreach program, following the Bloom with a View event, the Arboretum made donations of flowers and plants to numerous organizations in Western North Carolina. Haywood Community College was pleased to be one of those recipients.

Two truckloads of hydrangeas and Oriental Lilies were picked up from the Arboretum in early May and 51ÁÔÆæ plans to use these in flower beds around campus. The plants are currently being housed in the on-campus greenhouse. They are being carefully taken care of by volunteers from 51ÁÔÆæ’s Green Leaf Initiative volunteer group and 51ÁÔÆæ’s Campus Development team.

June Jolley from the Arboretum was pleased to see this donation come full circle. As a graduate of 51ÁÔÆæ and recipient of the 2017 Outstanding Alumni award, it is exciting to see the hard work she and her team do at the Arboretum come back to education where June followed her passion for plants and nature.

The flowers will be planted during the summer around campus and the unique colors of the hydrangeas will certainly add a pop of color as visitors enjoy the grounds of 51ÁÔÆæ through disc golf or walking and hiking on campus and the new trail system.
